For starters, the company has compared our fixed and mobile broadband experience with other countries throughout Southeast Asia. For the fixed category, Malaysia is apparently behind Singapore and Thailand for both download and upload speed.
Specifically, Malaysia’s average download and upload speed are hovering around the 75 Mbps and 50 Mbps marks respectively. As a comparison, Singapore’s download speed and upload speed are closer towards the 200Mbps line while the download and upload speed in Thailand are up to 125Mbps and 100Mbps marks respectively. When it comes to latency, Malaysia’s fixed broadband services were the second last among the six countries in Southeast Asia at 24 ms. Interesting enough, Vietnam is apparently on top of the latency chart with just 9 ms as compared to Singapore’s 11 ms.
In the mobile category, not only Singapore and Thailand that are ahead of us but Vietnam is also slightly faster than us. Malaysia’s mean mobile download and upload speed are said to be 22.12 Mbps and 11.40 Mbps respectively although we are somehow in the second place for latency at 29 ms. Ookla’s report also touched pointed out that Selangor has the best mean performance for fixed broadband while the same ranking goes for Sarawak in mobile broadband.
