Specifically, a report by HKEPC says that NVIDIA plans on releasing the card in between the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 in the month of January. Specs-wise, the RTX 3080 Ti is rumoured to be equipped with a GA102-250-KD-A1 GPU, which is a step above the current GA102-200 GPU that powers the RTX 3080. Additionally, the card is expected to have 20GB GDDR6X graphics memory, 10496 CUDA cores, and run it across a 320-bit interface. Rumours of the RTX 3080 Ti sound vaguely similar to an earlier rumour about NVIDIA’s plan to launch an RTX 3080 with the same amount of graphics memory, along with an RTX 3070 with twice as much VRAM too. However, it was later reported that NVIDIA has outright cancelled the production these cards, but fell short of providing any explanation its actions.
One possible reason – more of a speculation by the wider gaming community, to be fair – is because NVIDIA is planning on refreshing the GPUs in its GeForce RTX 30 series cards with TSMC’s 7nm process node, thus replacing the current 8nm dies made by Samsung. In any case, this is all purely just hearsay at this stage, and because of NVIDIA’s policy of not commenting on unreleased and unfinished products, it’s best to take this news with a liberal sprinkling of salt.
