That said, the company already announced that it has already ordered more units and the new units will be arriving on 20 August 2019. To recap, the original Switch has a battery life between 2.5 and 6.5 hours in handheld mode, while the new model with the enhanced battery is reportedly capable of running between 4.5 and nine hours. That’s approximately three hours more compared to its predecessor.
Needless to say, how long the battery lasts really depends on the game you play; Nintendo claims that the new Switch will be able to run The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for about two and half hours longer, compared to the original Switch. Nintendo is also helping its fans to distinguish the new Switch from the old through a couple of visual cues. Firstly, the Switch with the bigger battery is housed within an all-red and redesigned packaging.
The second cue is to check the console’s model and serial number; the original Switch is listed with the code “HAC-001”, while the models with the bigger battery are labelled as “HAC-001(-01)” and starts with the serial number “XKW”. The new Nintendo Switch is priced at RM1299, and ATO is currently taking pre-orders. The first generation Nintendo Switch is also available at RM1199. Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch Lite is expected to arrive in Malaysia on 20 September, the same date as the US launch. It’s estimated to be priced somewhere between RM849 and RM999 as the Switch Lite is priced at US$199.99 (~RM833). That said, we still do not have local pricing for the “Lite” console.
