In an interview with IGN Japan, Nagoshi says that leaving Sega allows him to work on new ideas that can potentially surpass the Yakuza series. That being said, the studio’s new game will be using a similar formula of prioritising story and gameplay over setting. “So you won’t find us making, like, smartphone puzzle games or whatever”, said Nagoshi. All that being said, it will be awhile before Nagoshi Studio announces, let alone releases, its first game. The studio currently has 10 people, and Nagoshi intends to not give that number go beyond 100. And with that, the studio will mostly only be working on one project at a time. Whatever the new game would end up being, it would definitely be something worth looking forward to, especially if you’re a fan of the Yakuza series. After all, it’s a formula that is successful enough to spawn seven main entry titles, a couple of spin-offs, one of which even getting a sequel. (Source: IGN [1], [2])
