Aware of this, Facebook has now introduced a new global notification screen feature to provide their users with relevant information on COVID-19 related links in order for its users to share it on their respective timelines. The purpose of having introduced this feature is to give users the right source of information within the link before they decide to share it on their timeline. Users will then be directed to the COVID-19 Information Centre Facebook page to make sure they have reliable information about COVID-19 from global health authorities. Realising possible implications, Facebook, in their bid to not slow down the spread of information from credible health authorities, has said that government health authorities and recognised global health organisations will be able to provide latest and important information relating to COVID-19 through the FB notification. Curious to know how this works, Facebook will inform users should an article shared be older than 90 days. However, if the article remains to be relevant and is not time sensitive, users will be able to share the article anytime, so long as the information is not stale and accurate.

In an effort to help reduce the spread of false information, Facebook’s new feature right here is something that will surely help social media users receive accurate information. Hopefully, more companies will follow in FB’s footsteps to introduce similar measures to help stop the spread of misinformation on COVID-19. (Source: Facebook)
